Limited edition, this being #69 of only 500 copies printed. Volumes I and II showing the handwritten '69' on the limitation pages with volume III having no limitation page but stating it's limitation of 500.

Important first edition being the very first full reproduction of the Book of Kells. This famous manuscript is one of the most beautiful books ever produced, and one of the oldest books in the world, estimated to date to 800 A.D. It is now displayed in Trinity College Library in Dublin.

Volume I: [1 blank end leaf]+[4 leaves of limitation, titles, contents, colophon]+[182 leaves, with each leaf numbered as recto/verso(ex: '152R/152V')]+[3 blank end leaves]. Note: 2 pages numbered 36, the second of which is marked with an asterisk, therefore there are actually 183 numbered leaves. Complete.

Volume II:  [1 blank end leaf]+[4 leaves of limitation, titles, contents, colophon]+[183-339 (continued from volume I)]+[2 blank end leaves]. Complete.

Volume III:  [1 blank leaf]+[83pp, not including pages numbered I-XII of full page plates with 1 unnumbered leaf being a reproduction of a miniature]+[1 blank leaf]. Complete.

Condition is overall fine. All volumes also internally fine, save for a few tissue guards having come loose in volumes I and II. Volume III showing some edge and shelf wear.
