A collection of bound Limited Edition fragments, detailing the very beginnings of the eccentric bibliophile club.

Finely bound by Zaehnsdorf in full plum-brown crushed morocco, featuring large central panels of contrasting green morocco leather inlays to both boards and spine compartments. The panels are elegantly defined by multi-line gilt rule borders with delicate gilt corner pieces, and with 5 raised bands, gilt titles, gilded turn-ins, beautiful inner boards, and top page edges gilt.

A rare volume signed by famed book dealer and publisher Bernard Quaritch and dedicated to T.C. Venables, who would later become President of the club. Venables ex libris pasted to inner board. 'David Low' in pencil...This volume was likely owned by him at some point. Sir David Low, the world-famous political cartoonist, was an active member of Ye Sette of Odd Volumes.

Formed in London in 1878 by the bookseller Bernard Quaritch, Ye Sette of Odd Volumes was a distinguished bibliophilic society. Its membership comprised a diverse cross-section of prominent figures, bringing together writers, artists, scientists, politicians, and intellectuals united by a shared passion for books.

Numbers I + II + III:

I: Limited to 25 copies. 23 pages.

II: Limited to 150 copies. viii, 95 pages.

III: Limited to 150 copies. 137 pages, engraving of Quaritch + numerous full page engravings, including an engraved portrait of the assembled group of the 'Odd Volumes' + a copy of 1879 Menu for 'Bernard Quaritch's Presidential Dinner' . Also tipped in at the end of volume is an 1884 newspaper article detailing the auction where Quaritch bids on and wins a copy of the Gutenberg or Mazarin Bible.
